First-Generation Student

What does first-generation mean?

Northwest considers you a first-generation college student, or first-gen for short, if your parent(s)/legal guardian(s) did not graduate from a four-year college or university. Being a first-generation student is a proud accomplishment! First-generation students may face unique experiences and challenges, but with a drive and desire to earn a college degree, and Northwest’s support and focus on student success, you can graduate Career Ready, Day One.
